January 2024, The Worthing Lions did their annual charity award night on the 30th January, this event is run to say thank you and to award the charity’s that helped out with the Santa Runs that the Lions held throughout December, this year they had 14 groups/charities help on the midweek nights, and a grand total of 199 volunteers pounded the streets in aid of donations, so that the club can help out as many people as possible throughout the Worthing area. The event is held so that they charities can meet each other and to see if each can build bonds to help support one another.

This year’s street collections the Lions where able to collect just over £8,000 thanks to the public of Worthing’s generosity, of this nearly £4000 was given on the night to the charities, with the biggest cheque going to the Warm Hub Tarring, which is run the ladies of the mothers union associated with St Andrews church, and is the second year running they have collected the biggest cheque and again they broke the record for collections in a single  night, this year they were pushed very close by the team from St Barnabas House who did hold the record for a whole week.

The other big winners on the night where the Worthing under 10’s football team that won an extra £200 pound in the prize draw, where three charities are drawn at random to receive an extra donation.

The other charity’s that took part where, Top Gun, Worthing Rotary, Ferring county centre, Tarring neighbourhood watch, Waders, Sight Support, Independent lives, Worthing district girl guides.

Lion Kevin who runs the event said that this was the biggest and best event we have run to date and we could not do it without the fantastic support of the charities who turn out at this event make it special for the Children of Worthing. It’s such a joy to see the little faces who often stay up especially to see the lit up van and Santa who follows us around, and the number of goodwill messages we received was staggering. Further good news is that the planning for next year is already under way and Santa has agreed to be with us again on every night.
